Anonymous asked: Hello! No questions here, but since I don't have a tumblr myself, and can't follow you, I guess, I simply wanted to compliment you on your absolutely splendid 'We Love Paintings' tumblr. I've never seen anything quite like it. You've created a virtual museum of fine painting, some well known, some more obscure. Thanks much for doing this, and keep up the good work!

Woah, it’s so good to read such kind words! Thank you very much for taking your time to write this message. <3

Painter Danielle Duer works from her studio in Nashville, Tennessee. She describes her narrative pieces as manifestations of a romantic walk inside her own head. Duer sees this world and the people in it as “blissful and beautiful but equally heartbroken and sick.” She wants each piece of art to contain all of these Authentic elements of life.

Christina’s World is a work by U.S. painter Andrew Wyeth, and one of the best-known American paintings of the middle 20th century. The woman crawling through the grass was the artist’s neighbor Christina Olson. Aged 55, Christina was crippled by polio, and “was limited physically but by no means spiritually.” Wyeth explained, “The challenge was to do justice to her extraordinary conquest of a life which most people would consider hopeless.” He recorded the arid landscape, rural house, and shacks with great detail, painting minute blades of grass, individual strands of hair, and nuances of light and shadow.

Against an architectural background based on the Alhambra in Granada and infused with an orange glow, Regnault has painted a scene of decapitation. The low angle and vigorous rising composition give the main character an imposing presence.
The executioner’s detached attitude and commonplace gesture contrast with the foreground in which the blood dripping down the steps joins the severed head to the body. The colours also take part in this opposition because the executioner’s caftan, which picks up the orange tones of the background, contrasts with the victim’s green and black clothing.
