Remedios Varo
Creación de las aves
1957
Oil on masonite
___
Remedios Varo portrays the three ingredients necessary for the origin of life: matter, made up of complex molecules that scientists have determined were formed by stellar fusion, deep in the interiors of stars, thus her stardust becomes paint pigment; energy, the gift of suns, beaming from the star through the magnifying glass and onto the page; and organization, the anti-entropy principle, represented by the Owl Woman’s cardio-violin.
Thus, through Ms. Varo’s profound artistry, the origin of life is transformed, so that it can be seen for what it is: a warm-blooded miracle, a song taking flight.

Frida Kahlo
Self Portrait in Medallion
1948
___
In this portrait, the lace ruff closes off space and makes Frida Kahlo look trapped. She is over-dressed and her finery becomes a mask. The contours of her face are full and coarser and her features hardened. Her signature slight mustache makes her look more obviously masculine. The years of pain have taken their toll as is shown by three tears glistening down her cheeks like the tears of the Madonna of Sorrows.

elanillodesakuntala asked: I like your blog a lot, but why don´t you have paintings from Latin American artists?

Hey!

To be honest, I don’t know many latin american artists… could you tell me some names, please? :)

Thanks for the message.
